After the period of providing information, the bylaw on circulation of pedestrians and vehicles will be applied, with the modifications on regulations covering cyclists of article 14, which now comes into force,, and more signals for pedestrians and cyclists.
Among the measures established in the new bylaw, cyclists must use bike lanes were available, or travel on the road in 30kph limited zones or in specifically designated lanes.
If there are no specifically designated bike lanes, cyclists should use the road. They can use the pavements in certain circumstances, and only when there are not a lot of people around.
In this case, the bylaw states that cyclists must travel at a maximum of 10 kilometres per hour, and must give priority to pedestrians at all times, travelling at a distance of one metre.
When there are a lot of people, cyclists must not use the pavements, but the bylaw also states that pedestrians must not occupy bike lanes.
Regarding cyclists travelling on the road, drivers of motor vehicles must give them at least 1.5 metres space when passing, and maintain a distance of 3 metres when travelling behind a cyclist.
Bikes must only be left in appropriate spaces, leaving at least 3 metres space for pedestrians.
