Bicycle vs Bus vs Car
This picture was part of Muenster`s (Germany) advertising campaign, in which they compare the space used by various modes of travel and the advantages of using public transit and bicycling. The campaign compared the amount of space needed to transport 72 people with the following statistics:
Bicycle: 72 people are transported on 72 bikes, which requires 90 square meters.
Car: Based on an average occupancy of 1.2 people per car, 60 cars are needed to transport 72 people, which takes 1,000 square meters.
Bus: 72 people can be transported on 1 bus, which only requires 30 square meters of space and no permanent parking space, since it can be parked elsewhere.

By Bicycle in Barcelona: ecology, safety and coexistence manual
The bicycle is a key factor in reducing air and noise pollution in cities. According to Barcelonas City Hall, the bicycle is the most efficient means of transport in terms of energy use: it uses 12 times less energy than a full car to move one person over a distance of 1 kilometre, and 50 times less than a car carrying just one person. However, we should follow some safety and coexistence measures when we ride the bike in the city. Here you´ll find the “Safety and coexistence manual” made by Barcelonas City Hall with many practical and good advices.

And with this premise Barcelona City Council is working day and night to expand, rationalise and improve the network of routes and cycle paths in the city.
